Scarlet Ibis

Scarlet Ibis

Symbol is a word used to represent a picture, object, word, sound, or number that means something even if the meaning is self explanatory. An example of a symbol is a flag because it represents the meaning of it country and why each color or design is made the way it is. Many people can identify different countries because of the color and the way it's designed.
A scarlet ibis is a scarlet bird, with a curved bill and this bill is used for them to search for food and dig for them along the coast. The scarlet ibis lives in large groups around shallow waters along the coast, in the mud flats and lagoon. The environment they need to live in, in order to survive has to have the right kind of food in order to retain their colors. They also need to sleep in large groups in the mangrove trees in order to have their piled up nests so both parents can take care of their young ones.

The father is giving his daughter advice about floating. This first swim lesson dealing with floating also has a symbolic meaning. Not only is the father giving his daughter advice about floating, but he is also giving his daughter advice about life and all the struggles that may come in between she would be fine and overcome all that is put in her way. This is a great way to deliver advice about swimming but also about life. Her father shows how much confidence he has towards his daughter because it shows that no matter where she's headed the sea would hold her and protect her meaning that he's comparing himself to the sea and he will always be there for her and show her the right path as once he did.

The story "Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurts it shows the symbol and meaning of what type of relationship they carried. Symbolism is very important because it shows the comparison of on relationship in two different ways. This story shows the over power of love and pride can cause. Brother and Doodle had many differences but it was all love but pride didn't let them show it.

Doodle was unable to walk which had a huge affect on his family and especially on his brother. He couldn't stand the fact he had a younger brother who wasn't able to play or do any activities with him. This caused his brother to act a certain way to Doodle and treat him badly. At the end of the day they could not deny the love they had for each other and they just hoped they were good enough for each other. They compared this situation to a scarlet ibis because in the story Doodle buried one after he was old not to, but it showed he cared and didn't want to leave it out on its own. When Doodle passed away it was ironic because his brother found him in the same position they had seen the scarlet ibis laying dead on their front door. It was like a message sent or a sign, that something wasn't right.

This story made me discover sometimes you have to let your pride down for those who you love even if they aren't perfect because there's a reason for it all. You never know when the last time with that person is gonna be, therefore don't think about things you should of have done when you still have the chance to before it's too late.
